Delivering Beyond
expectations
Off-site building specialist, Terrapin, has won SCI/NHBC Stage 1 Certification for its Prospex System - a light steel volumetric modular construction solution. Commenting on this achievement, Terrapins Managing Director said, The NHBC is the leading standard setting body for the housebuilding industry and we regard this certification as a major endorsement of Terrapins off-site building technology for this demanding sector.
Terrapins technical team worked closely with the Steel Construction Institute throughout the assessment process, which scrutinised all aspects of the companys Prospex Modular System, including structural integrity, stability and installed and as-built tolerances. Prospex met or exceeded the required standards and is now certified as suitable for use in the construction of residential dwellings up to five storeys in accordance with NHBC Standards for light steel framed walls and floors.
Prospex is part of a comprehensive range of off-site building systems manufactured by Terrapin. It offers a fast and efficient solution for creating more affordable homes and key worker accommodation, as well as meeting the buildings demands of other sectors, such as healthcare, education and prisons. The Prospex System uses cold rolled galvanized C-sections for wall studs and floor joists as its basic components, which are all produced to relevant BS EN standards. The system of construction is based on the warm frame principle where the primary insulation is placed outside the structural frame, which minimises the risk of condensation. Using high technology factory production, Prospex modules can be built and fully fitted offsite by Terrapin, sealed and then delivered for flexible finishing and easy connection of services.
Terrapins Managing Director concludes, I believe achieving SCI / NHBC accreditation for our Prospex System reflects the advances we have made in leading the application of off-site building technology in this sector."
