If these projects are delayed without any alternative arrangements, many in the medical profession as well as their administrative and support teams may have to continue working in cramped, inadequate conditions indefinitely. On the other hand, proven factory-built building systems can provide cost effective new facilities on a rental basis to meet short- and medium-term needs.

Typically, an air conditioned Terrapin building can be ready for occupation within a few weeks of ordering with rents from as little as £8 per square foot, and flexible rental periods from one to ten years. Renting a bespoke Terrapin building could be an attractive alternative as the global financial crisis leads to continuing cuts in capital budgets and the healthcare sector is unlikely to find immunity from the credit crunch and new coalition budget changes. Both the NHS and private healthcare providers will be affected, and may be forced to put some plans on hold. Some major capital projects not yet started may be delayed, putting further pressure on those outdated and inadequate facilities that remain. Many smaller projects needed to complete the rejuvenation of healthcare facilities down to the primary care level could also be put on the back burner.

According to November 2008 figures from the Department of Health, 146 new hospital schemes over £10 million have been given the go-ahead for English NHS Trusts since 1997. These schemes, financed either through private finance initiatives or public capital, amount to a total investment of £14.89 billion. The figures show good progress, with 100 projects (£6.14 billion) completed, 32 (£5.94 billion) currently under construction and 14 (£2.81 billion) yet to start. The massive capital investment in these showpiece hospital developments overshadows the projects of less than £10 million which have already led to a substantial modernisation of local facilities in many areas. Much, however, still needs to be done.

Hire contracts can be tailored to precise periods to meet the need, and at the end of the agreement we take the building away or relocate it and restore your site to its previous condition. We also offer the option to extend hire periods or to extend a building already hired, if the need arises.
