Guthlaxton College

Terrapin’s in-depth experience in building for education allows us to provide specialist, purpose-built tutorial facilities and Guthlaxton College in Wigston, Leicestershire, is a perfect example. The centre is furthering the aim of the government’s focus on education which requires school systems to enable teaching staff to develop each child’s individual talents.

Guthlaxton College has been awarded Phase 2 Arts College status and is privileged to be sponsored by the Music Sound Foundation. To accommodate this status, the college needed to expand its facilities and invited a number of modular building and construction companies to tender for a double-studio dance centre. The contract was awarded to Terrapin using off-site construction technologies.

The building provides a total floor area of 248 sq m in a single storey, pitched roof structure. Internally it is fitted out as required for dance studios with air conditioning, specialist flooring and floor to ceiling mirrors. It also has changing rooms and a store.

The new facility enabled the college to convert the existing dance studio for use by the Drama Department, helping to alleviate the shortage of space for Performing Arts, all contributing to the improvement and development of a successful educational resource.
