Terrapin Education

Burghfield St Mary's School

Terrapin have twice provided full service building solutions using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) for Burghfield St Mary’s School, near Reading. The first building, a single storey, double classroom block constructed in 2000, was so well received by the school that, despite fierce competition, Terrapin won the contract to supply another.

The latest order was to extend an existing building and match it accordingly. Providing a large single classroom with stores and a side area separated by low level partitioning, the new building has a floor area of 92 sq m.

As with the first building, Terrapin worked closely with the school and West Berkshire Council to establish the most suitable design to match their required high standard; to keep within budget and to blend with the other buildings. Construction was swift, causing minimal disruption to the school, and timed to avoid SATS exam week.

The school is a popular choice for parents in the area, so both buildings were required to accommodate an increase in pupil numbers. West Berkshire Council awarded the contract, although, as a Voluntary Aided School, Burghfield St Mary’s also had an influence in the choice of contractor. The Headteacher, Mrs Ann Dee, her staff and the pupils, are delighted with the result.
