Ashfield Nursery

A new Neighbourhood Nursery at the Kingsway Primary School, Kirkby in Ashfield, was designed, manufactured and constructed by Terrapin in just 14 weeks. It is run by Rockinghorse Childcare Centres and is the first in the area to be funded from the Neighbourhood Nursery Scheme set up by the government to supply more safe and reliable childcare.

Terrapin has many years experience in providing these facilities and took full consideration of the requirements of the government initiative. The building had to provide a full nursery care for children from six weeks old to five years, plus after school care up to 8 years. There needed to be room to supply a range of information and support for parents, including accessing help to pay for childcare, where to go for training courses, or how to help a child to learn to read.

The completed building is single storey with a pitched roof providing a total floor area of 605 sq m. It was constructed using Terrapin’s panel based method of off-site construction.
